Sunraysia crane and rigging is the culmination of years in the industry. Martin has been in the construction and crane hire industry for more than 30years, having started as a rigger and then crane operator. He comes from a family who has worked in the construction as transport industry for 3 generations. His grandfather, a truck driver drove for Pickfords back in the 1930’s and 60’s.
In the 1940’s, after serving in the British Army, his father, Peter began working in the construction and crane hire industry in England with Sparrows cranes. The crane hire industry took the Hurley family to places like Papua New Guinea and Bouganville where Peter worked for BHP. Eventually the family moved to Australia where Peter worked for a number of companies including Walter Wright’s, Elliots and Brambles. Although retired now, Peter still keeps a keen eye on the industry and its technological advancements, and is always happy to share his experience, knowledge and advice.
Martin has been around cranes most of his life and actively involved in the construction and crane hire industry for more than 30 years, having started as a rigger and then crane operator. Like his father, he is very passionate about the industry and has worked with crawler cranes, hydraulic cranes, and drag lines. He has also worked in Indonesia and Bouganville as a crane consultant.
Martin and his young family moved to Mildura in 1991, and after 10 years of still working with cranes in the area, bought his first crane in 2001.
